DeRozan will be hurt by Winter Olympics

With the start of the 2010 Winter Olympics and the NBA All Star Festivities kicking off Friday night, the two will go head to head over the weekend for viewers. No matter the outcome both events will be hurt by each other, especially NBA All Star weekend and DeMar DeRozan. The young player will be hoping Canadian fans tune in to watch him over the Olympics.

Friday night will mark the Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics, the annual rookie-sophomore challenge and for the first time a mini dunk competition during halftime. Toronto Raptors rookie DeMar DeRozan will take on Clippers young stud Eric Gordon in a dunk off with the winner advancing to Saturday night`s Sprite Slam Dunk Competition. Both players will have the chance to perform two dunks with the winner being decided via fan votes, which of course does not bode well for DeRozan. It is expected the majority of Canadian citizens will be tuned in to the Olympics Opening Ceremony taking place Vancouver, British Columbia. Canadian fans have waited over 20 years for the Olympics to return to Canada and anticipation is buzzing for Canada to win their first ever gold medal on home soil. DeRozan will still receive votes from the die hard Raptor fans as they would not miss this for the world, but in order to be victorious, people from other cities will have to support the Compton native. I for one hope enough people support him to advance to compete Saturday night because from what I have seen this season and in the 2008 McDonald's Slam Dunk Contest that man can dunk.

DeRozan also made a website to promote himself for this competition

Remember to cast your vote on Friday night at halftime of the Rookie-Sophomore challenge for DeMar DeRozan or Eric Gordon and stay tuned for the latest updates for All Star Weekend. Good luck to both competitors!
